I'm about to spend a lot of money on a new mouthpiece, I did at one time use a hard ruber mouthpiece that came with my Selmer clarinet, the Selmer paris HS*. But I have dropped it and it was 37 years old, so of course it shattered... I went to a cheapish 30 dollar plastic one, that also broke due to cracks, and another pretty bad mouthpiece, and I am now using a intermediate plastic mouthpiece, I really miss the tone my origional mouthpiece made, and I am looking into either buying a Vandoren 5VR or a Selmer paris again... If anyone has ever experimented with the two or one of the two and knows how it works, would you please give me some details?

Are you still playing the Selmer clarinet? I was never toally happy with the 5RV on the Buffet R13 clarinets.
A lot of people have had good luck with the Vandoren M13.
Feel free in emailing me regarding measurements between the HS star, the 5RV, and the M13, also the type of clarinet you are using.

I would also consider a Vandorean B40 or M30 mouthpiece. The best way to choose is just to play them all four or five potential mouthpieces for somebody (who is standing 10 ft away). Choose a mouthpiece that allows you to easily produce an even well focused sound.
Don't forget about Fobes and Hite mouthpieces.

i am currently using a selmer signature clarinet. I actually got a little excited and impatiant and went and picked up a vandoren paris mouthpiece its a B45, but it actually works great. its a little more squeeky than my other mouthpieces lol. but i think with some time breaking it in and getting used to the new adjustments I need to make with my embosure for the registers, i think it will turn out great. Thanks for the help.

The only way to pick the best mouthpiece is to try allot of them at a showroom or music store. The ica convention is coming up in Austin and that would be a good place to pick one. There are so many different brands and models within those brands, not to mention that each one is unique. The only way to find a good one is try. I have a selmer signature and just bought a new M30 that goes great with it because: a.) its the m13 kind thats higher pitched, that works bc my selmer is usually flat. b.)Its more freeblowing, my selmer is stuffy and resistant. Clarinet is compicated, and you have to try try try to find YOUR right setup...

size 3 vandoren V12... I actually turned out to be a little unsatisfied with it... It sounds like a cheap plastic mouthpiece i was forced to buy a few years ago... :( I'm having a lot of trouble keeping away from fuzzy airy tones unless I tighten my embosure, but it makes it a lot easier to squeek. It also leaks air out of the sides of my reed no matter how enclosed i try to get the corners of my mouth...
