Hi Folks,
I had a short conversation with Steve about Amati clarinets. Most of you are American players, but some from Europe too. Therefore I'm interested to hear about known users of Amati clarinets inside this community.
In Europe the Amati scope is spread widely, but it seems to be in USA and Canada not to be likewise. Ist this right?
Please help me to find some more informations about Amatis out of Europe! Who's playing one, and what model ist it? What's the matter or prefer with? Where didi you buy this, and why? ...?
I inspected the boards more detailed and found some Amati-related threads some years ago. But it seems, the importer has moved and changed his business ;-( Who's importing this brand yet?

PS: For interests: I can establish contact to the manufacturer itself. In Europe, the brand is well known and selled often (more often than a Conn-Selmer;-).

My very first clarinet was an Amati 211. I've bought, played, and sold a 201, a 313 and some "special" models (Amati and Corton).
I still own a Full Boehm "Special" (awaiting overhaul) and a 251 plastic "C" clarinet, and an ATS-31 (aka Classic Super) tenor sax.

One of the orchestra players in this area has one as a back up to his main Eb. I've worked on it, and it seems like a decent clarinet even though it has a plastic bell and barrel.

Hi RoBass , I live in Australia and some time back I purchase two Amati's second-hand, a Bb & an A. They are both full Boehms and I'm quite pleased with them. In the past Amati Klaslice did have a poor reputation for shoddy keywork and unstable wood, but I got lucky with these ones. I assume that since they got rid of the Communist in 1989 the quality of things in old Czechoslovakia improved considerably. They are both free playing and remarkably well in tune throughout their entire range with a full bodied sound. Also,for full Boehms , they stay very well in adjustment. The Bb is the ACL 605 model and it's serial number is 304655 (made in CZECH REPUBLIC) and the A is the ACL 675 model and it's serial number is 201209. I would regard these as good quality intermediate Clarinets. I believe they were originally purchased here in Australia from Lamerti of Melbourne but are now available elsewhere here. I'll try and find out for you. Oh and by the way , they are heavy. The Bb is 812 g and the A is 842 g. Both have silver plated keywork.

I'm using an Amati special, the E/B key is bent but it still sounds ok. Of course, I'm still a beginner so I wouldn't know.

Oh yeah, that's a lot of users - an unexpected number of course :-) I own two (eventually three?) Amatis yet - ACL 241 Bb (German), maeastro m500 (full Boehm professional) and one noname ful equipped instrument with keywork like Amati.
But for this we're searching for the manufacturer. Could be a licensed copy from GDR (Uebel) or otherwise.
Could you make some photos of your clarinets and some measures?! Steve will install a Amati-related site within clarinetperfection. But we should provide him as best. Special interest I have in clarinets before 1994. This period was not documented well.-(

PS: And I figured out, daß some Asian instruments are very close to the Amati-Design of the 80s/90s...
