 Question for barrel makers
Author: salzo

Can anyone tell me the machines required for turning barrels?
I know one need a lathe, but was wondering how intricate(translation-expensive) a machine is needed. If one was only turning barrels, could one get by with a micro/mini lathe, or are the big mothers a necessity?
Was also wondering how one cuts a turning block lengthwise, to arrive at the correct barrel length. I would imagine it wouldnt be a good idea to go in the garage and use a chop saw to do this-just have no idea what machinery is used for that procedure.
I found a bunch of grenadilla turning blocks which i aquired years ago and forgot about. Think I MIGHT want to give it a try, but would like to know the machines that are necessary.
thanks for any help.
