Howdy and thanks for reading.
I am currently trialling a Yamaha CSG. When i first got it the C# (lower joint) was just sticking when it was pressed down, after moving a little it has got more responsive but its still much harder to press down than the other pinky keys.
It is resistant whether I use the left or right pinky to play the note.
Does anyone know of a quick fix thats not too scary for someone who doesent know anything about repairs!
Its just going to cost me to send it back to them and for them too look at it thats all.
Cheers!

Sounds like it isn't the pad sticking, but probably a tight hinge. This hinge is mounted on pivot screws i.e. each side has a small screw. You can try slightly opening each of those screws to see if it helps. Open one side first, check for improvement. If there is no improvement close it back and open only the other side. Then you can try a tiny bit of each at the same time, gradually increasing. Just try to get a feel for when it is ok. MAke sure to check while you hold the F/C key down, so you check the F#/C# key only and not both.
Some Yamaha woodwinds have headed screws where the head has no real purpose and there's a plastic filler in the threads to prevent the screw from being loose. This could be the reason, thoug I don't know if this model has this type of screws.
I don't remember what type of linkage this model has between the key and the left pinky lever. If it's a pin linkage, the sticking can happen at the hinge of the lever or the linkage itself. If the previous solution doesn't work you can check this by removing the lever to check, if you think you can do this. Most likely you have to remove both levers (of three of them if it has the left pinky Ab/Eb lever too).
Unlikely, but it can also be a really stiff spring. Maybe in addition to one of the other problems. Usually it's possible to feel the difference between a sticking key and a spring problem.
Since this clarinet is on trial be especially careful not to damage screw slots or not to scratch anything. Use a good screwdriver.
