 Vintage R-13 Barrels

I have a Vintage R-13 for trial. It comes with cylindrical and conical bore barrels. What is the difference between conical/cylindrical bore barrels, besides the physical shape of the bore? Which type comes with the regular R-13? I can't tell which is which by looking at them. One feels a little more "open" sounding/less resistive, but I haven't done a good comparison yet.

Bill, I am by no means an expert in these matters. However, much is written on this subject. The change in barrels can have a direct effect on resistance and the tonal qualities of the instrument. Below for ex. is a part of a old Thread from the Klarinet List with Clark Fobes (who *is* an EXPERT) with discussion on point:

Good luck.

So,

Do you want to make the clarinet harder to play?

I agree there should be a balance between free-blowing and tone generation, but too much "hold" gets in the way.

More important (in my mind, anyway), which one gives you the best overall tuning?
