pomarico crystal clarinet mouthpiece tend to need a smaller size ligature than normal?i am currently facing on suituation, the pomarico mouthpiece will need smaller size ligature, for example a Bb pomarico mouthpiece will require a Eb clarinet ligature, the main problem is what if i bought a pomarico Eb clarinet ligature?so what ligature should i grab hold on to use with the Eb clarinet since the ligature of a normal Eb might not fit the pomarico Eb crystal mouthpiece..thanks in advance for the answers

I'm not sure if it will work, but a Sopranino Sax lig maybe? I've used a Soprano Sax lig will fit most Eb Clarinet mpc's

Actually, I've found Pomarico crystals to be slightly on the large size (outside diameter) compared to typical mouthpieces of other brands. I play Pomarico crystals on Eb and Bb soprano and bass clarinets, and alto sax, so I speak from experience. Most standard metal ligatures (except for Boosey & Hawkes which are too small) will fit Pomaricos, and Rovner fabric ligatures work especially well with these mouthpieces (and fit just about everything else, too).

I have played crystal for 25+ years and always had difficulty in finding any metal ligature that provides a secure hold, they just seem to vibrate loose for me.
Have mostly used a rovner or BG type and currently a leather vandoren which all seem to work fine.
Agree that the Vandoren crystals (which were I think made for them by Pomerico) definately are a little fatter than most mouthpieces in their exterior diameter.

Norman Smale,Hi there..does your post mean that if i am actually using a leather ligature for the pomarico Bb clarinet ruby mellow mouthpiece, the leather ligature might be able to fit the mouthpiece?

Yes my Vandoren leather lig fits Vandoren A1 crystal perfectly so should fit the Pomerico fine

I've used a Luyben for several years on my Pomarico crystal. They're relatively cheap and don't slip off easily. I like using a red one for klezmer, just for the flair.

hi,so to sum the question up,do the ligature need to be bigger than normal Bb clarinet ligature if i am using with the pomarico crystal mouthpiece or do normal Bb ligature fit the pomarico?

because i am deciding to order the ligature for the pomarico and i do not want to order the wrong sizing..thanks

My Pomarico sapphire crystal Bb mouthpiece is fractionally larger than a Vandoren B45 but well within the range of adjustment of an ordinary ligature.

I wasn't very impressed by the quality of finish of the tenon on the mouthpiece. There were sharp moulding flashes which hadn't been removed during manufacture between the tenon and the mouthpiece body. These could have caused considerable damage to the socket on the barrel and also meant that the mouthpiece could not be pushed fully into the barrel. I hope you have better luck!

Chris

Ditto what Jim Harper said.

I played a crystal mouthpiece years ago and used a Luyben ligature. It worked just fine.
