For ages I've been trying to find out what I consider to be my most favourite recording of 'An American In Paris' (it's the sax playing on this recording that really does it for me) - and it's now playing on the radio!
A search on the station's website tells me what I've wanted to know for so long - Chicago Symphony Orchestra/Levine on the Deutsche Grammophon label (catalogue number 431 625-2). So that's me off to Amazon right now to get myself a copy of it.
Who are the sax players in this recording (especially the alto player)? Nice to hear real Big Band sax players to give it the edge over all other recordings I've heard where they have pretty tame sax players.
