My grauddaughter wants to start clarinet. Now I find I enjoy working on clarinets so I bought another clarinet besides the old Sears Silvertone I overhauled, a plastic Vito Clari-Tone from Craigslist. I bought a Vandoren B45 Ebonite "13" Profile 88 mouthpiece for the wooden Sears Silvertone, and for the Vito I am thinking of a Ridenour Model RE 5 at $59 or a Model RC 5 $43.95 similar to the RE 5, but in acrylic. These Ridenor Mid-range mouthpieces are supposed to be hand crafted, and since I was impressed by the ridenourclarinetproducts web site I am thinking of buying one of their mouthpieces. These Ridenour mouthpieces have medium-large bores and medium-narrow chambers. Would the Ridenour be a good choice or should I think of something else?

Why not call Tom himself and ask him? He's happy to answer any questions you have on his products.

I tried an RC5 about 2 months ago. It was, IMO, definitely NOT hand crafted because it had rather deep "grooves" on the table and facing. It had all the appearances of being a "machined" mouthpiece. It simply would not produce a tone for me.
Now, Tom's student mouthpiece was a true work of art but it was much too open tipped for me.
You might want to look at the Fobes Debut. From what I've read, each Debut mouthpiece is personally worked on by Clark Fobes himself. The Debut is highly recommended my many on this bulletin board.
