 Reeds Australia

Has anyone ever tried Vintage, Vintage XL, or Passion reeds of this company? How to the reed sizes compare to Vandoren? For example is a 3.5 of this reed the same as a 3.5 of Vandoren?

I'm interested in these reeds, but I've never really heard them being mentioned before.

I am part way through a box of Passion 3's which, so far as I can tell, are equivalent to v12 3's. This particular box was given me by my teacher and they seem to be "out of the box" so far as longevity and "ring" are concerned.

However , I am also told that your mileage may vary remarkably. All I can say about my experience is that it has been extremely good.

I studied with the managing director for a few weeks one summer (2006 I believe). The "Passion" reeds were just in prototype stages and he gave us many samples. They were quite good.

I played the vintage and vintage XL for a while, and bought some of the "Passion" when they came out officially. The XL is similar to a V12 and the vintage is somewhat like a Zonda or moree style reed with a narrowing butt towards the heel. The Passion is somewhat of a blend of both.

The quality was high for passion, but not worth the price to me. I didn't find enough good reeds in the box to warrant the price difference between them and V12's.

Availability of these reeds (all of them really) is also a problem. The consistency from box to box is also questionable on the Vintage and Vintage XL lines. I had several boxes in a row of these that were just awful and prompted another return to V12's.

I've used Vintage reeds since my local music shop recommended them 18 months back. I find them to be similar in characteristics to Rico Royals at a better price. I've found them to be very consistent, with few duds. At the moment I'm using Legere plastic reeds, but if/when I use cane again it will probably be Vintage.
