I currently have a wooden Normandy Bb clarinet. I have been searching tirelessly for a more "professional" model. I have an opportunity to try out a Leblanc "LL" later this week. The man said that it is @ 15 years old but in excellent condition. He is asking $875. Is this a good horn for the money or should I continue searching?

The "LL" is indeed a professional model. If it is in very good condition and you like it, that is a reasonable price.

Thanks Dee, I tend to favor Leblancs so I really hope I like it! I will let you know what happens. This guy is local and I like that. I tend to shy away from buying through the mail.

I own one, amzing horn, mine is new though. But, I think tone gets better with age(If the pads are kept in good shape, and it is alligned correctly). It has very few intonation problem s and man does it sing. Let me Know how you do

I bought it. It is in great shape. I need to have a few corks replaced, but other than that I think I have found a really nice horn. I have already started playing much better and it has given me a renewed desire to improve my skills.
Since I am not an expert, I wonder if it should consider having a complete overhaul done on it, even though it seems to play just fine. If I should...I live in the Nashville area and would like to find someone local who would do a good job. Any suggestions.

Connie, I, too, live in the Nashville area. When I needed an overhaul of my Leblanc L7, I called the Blair School of Music to see who they recommended for clarinet repairs, overhauls, etc. They referred me to Al at Mars Music at 100 Oaks. I called him and talked to him and then went by to see him. I felt very comfortable with putting my horn in his hands, and was very pleased with the job he did. He seems to like working on these older "gems" and he got it back to me very quickly. I took it in on Monday morning and he had it ready for me on Thursday evening of the same week.
