From Yusuf,
I tried to E/mail you but my E/mails where returned with ‘failure to
send E/mail’ notice on it. I tried twice so I will do it this way.
Thank you very much for your encouragement.
You were right. My music reading has suddenly clicked into place. I
think
your encourageing remarks done the trick. I'm playing some small
pieces(
tiny pieces, 8 to 12 bars) by sight reading now. They are from my
study
book, excerpts from Haydn,Schumann, Brahms.
It is really exciting. I have no idea at first what the piece sounds
like
and suddenly this music is coming out of the end of the horn and I've
heard
it for the first time. That's never happened to me before. It makes
all the
practicing worth while and gives such an incentive to go on further.
Your observations have helped me a lot. Did I mention I live in
England? Where abouts are you?
By the way I got myself a pyramid type metronome and a couple of
books of
study pieces for beginner through to advanced that should keep me
going for
a while. Can't have them till Xmas though. The wife collared them and
said
that solves her problem of what to get me for Xmas. (Spoil sport)
Take care and keep in touch.
Yusuf

I'm in the states. My wife has said the same thing... we are working toward Piano/Clarinet duets.
I especially like Mendelsson, as the Piano pieces are interesting.
Good choice with the metronome, I have begun to watch the arm swinging... this is similar to what a conductor will do (provided I find a local group willing to have me).
I strongly recommend the David Hite book, "Melodious and Progressive studies, Book 1".
It is published by SMC, #B 448. Included are some of Baermann's exercises.
This has some really interesting melodies, not just scale after scale.
It's $10.95 in the USA.
Have you begun to "Hear" pitches as you read? It doesn't always happen, but it is more frequent as I play.
Innit this a great instreument?
All the best
anji
