I own a Buffet clarinet that I have had for at least 35 years. I started playing in grade school, then high school and at the university. Back in the 60's, playing in the University band was not nearly as fashionable as it is today. I slowly moved away from playing the clarinet. I do regret having abandoned such a beautiful instrument.
Years later, in the early 70's, I purchased a Buffet--something I had always wanted but never could afford. The Buffet serial number is 18765. The clarinet is engraved with "Buffet Campion & Cie A Paris" with a tiny engraving below that reading made in France. According to a website I found, that serial number apparently indicates the clarinet was made in 1935.
Is anyone able to give me a price range relating to the value of this clarinet? Of course this presumes that there are no cracks (to my untrained eyes the wood looks like it did when first purchased). I had the pads replaced about 7 years ago. If the clarinet was made in 1935, and given that I purchased it sometime in the 70's, I doubt if I am the original owner. Any help on the above would be most appreciated.
