Anyone know where to find the video of the How It's Made episode that had clarinets in it. I saw it on my tv guide for directv but missed the clarinet segment. Anyone know or have this video. I'm sure there are other videos of clarinet design but I was just curious if anyone had that specific episode. Thanks all!

Watch your TV guide. They always repeat thier programs. You may be a little disapointed. That section of the program only lasted about 7 minutes and was not very informative. Mostly they covered how they cast the keys in metal.

The clarinet in "How It's Made" was the Leblanc Bliss. I agree with senior's assessment of the disappointing quickie glimpse of clarinet construction. I can't imagine any clarinet player finding this broadcast satisfying.
The shots of casting the "tree" of keys looked interesting, but the rest of the construction on this plastic instrument whizzed past in a series of jump-cuts so perfunctory that it was impossible to get much information out of them. I'd love to see a much longer video -- or, even better, a program on the making of a professional instrument with a wooden body and forged keys. I'm not even going to bother to try to DVD-R this program when it repeats.

Thanks for the links! I'll see whether my computer will cooperate. It generally balks at youtube -- shows about ten seconds at a time, stalls, waits, shows another ten seconds ... until I cuss and give up.

Sometimes if you let the video play in the background, when you replay it is much smother -- running off your computer, not the internet. Other servers give you a bar to indicate how much is downloaded. Often if I hit stop, the video will continue to download. I just leave it for a while and come back to it after it has loaded well past the point it is playing at.
