I'm about to get a new clarinet for christmas and I always wanted a white or alternate color clarinet besides black. I new a lady who had a clarinet made out of cedar wood but it was pink. Well, If anyone has any info on a colored clarinet please contact me at pheonixz_99@hotmail.com

Vito make different coloured clarinets. From memory you can get them in blue, red and green. At a high school where I worked for a few weeks some of the kids had all bought a dfferrent coloured clarinet, then swapped parts so they all had "rainbow" clarinets! Looked, very... interesting!
I think they only come as plastic models though. If you are in the hunt for a wooden coloured clarinet, why not try the American company that make flavoured reeds, surely that is up their alley!

Vito also makes a white one. You can get rosewood also.

You can get a Vito dazzler. It is a plastic student horn, and comes in flag red, light and dark blue, yellow, green, white, and black(don't ask me why they make a black one since all other clarinets in general are black...) and I think Rossi clarinets are like "albino" looking. Umm...... prestiges are pretty, you can see the wood and itz just pretty. Ok well Hope I helped (somewhat)

I've only ever seen black. Patricola make a rosewood clarinets according to their web site. I have seen a Patricola oboe in rosewood that looks and sounds fantastic, so Patricola might be worth a go. The colour is, well, reddish. Think of the colour of some bassoons. I've read on this BB that can also get multicoloured ligatures. I've sometimes used fluoro shoelaces as a string ligature (mainly for a laugh only).

I think LeBlanc makes a Pete Fountain model with gold plated keys. I once saw a lighter colored wood clarinet that had gold keys. It took my breath away! Woodwind and Brasswind have Rossi clarinets in their catalogue. They offer a couple of different wood options, including rosewood. (You can't beat rosewood for beauty, in my opinion.)

Yes, although keep in mind the LeBlanc Pete Fountain is a jazz clarinet with a monster bore. Even a LeBlanc rep I know of said they don't blend well in a concert band or orchestra setting. Selmer also offers it normal pro models with gold plate as an option. I would not recommend choosing a horn based on looks only. These things are often expensive, and a waste of money if you buy them solely because they look cool. If you found a pleasing color of cord for a ligature, there would be no harm in that. I actually like that idea. I'm going to have to give it a try. -- Nate Zeien

I can't remember now, but a few months ago, someone in my band was introducing me to their clear coloured clarinet (Or was it oboe?). Anyway, all I remember is that the thing looked alien and discusting and that I never wanted to see it again.

Not suggesting it, but you could get an old metal clarinet, which would be gray or silver-colored. I also recall that there is some company that will lacquer metal instruments in a variety of colors. You could get them to lacquer the metal clarinet. But, as mentioned above, color should not be your primary criterion for choosing a clarinet.

Hmmm... Speaking of clear colored clarinets, I've seen a picture of one of those, I think Giora Feidman was playing it. I was wondering as to whether it was made of plastic, or perhaps even crystal. I know that he uses a crystal mouthpiece frequently. A crystal clarinet may be delicate and expensive, but not impossible. (Hard on the thumb though!) It's a little off subject, but I remember having seen a transparent dayglow green violin in a movie once. It appeared and sounded to be fully functional. It cetainly didn't have a beautiful stradivarius sound, but it wasn't too bad, considering. Any idea where a person could find transparent clarinets and violins? I'm just curious because they are fun too look at. -- Nate Zeien

MY R13 was put on hold for a couple of days, and my other clarinet was in the shop. My band director asked us to play at his wedding. I didn't want to miss it so my teacher gave me a clear clarinet to play that night. The keys looked like copper. If I recall it was a Buffet. It wasn't a bad clarinet, it was just ugly to me. Everyone else thought it was cool though.

There's always the Yamaha Allegro, it's black, but it has pretty gold plated joints. More importantly, it's a great horn.

Months ago the Dazzler clarinets were discussed here. I said then that I'd never seen one even at marching band competitions (where visual impact is part of the judging.) Well... a few weeks ago I did. In one band one player has a red one. it looked strange to me, especially since all the other instruments were of the traditional colors.

That clear clarinet is a lucite Buffet B12. It was the clarinet that Giora Feidman used to record Schindler's List. Came from Robert Gilberts shop in LA (West Hollywood? I've been there many times but can't figure out just what city it is in.). It was not his regular horn, he picked it out to get a particular sound. That horn is in my closet now. Just goes to show you in the hands of a master virtually anything can sound spectacular. No, even with this horn or my R13 I do not sound anything like Giora Feidman. Maybe I need his mouthpiece. Maybe I just need talent.
