I have been playing my bass all day and just went back to my Bb. It is really funny. I feel like i"m playing a recorder--it is so small.
have fun

Don't worry, it does feel funny switching from instrument to instrument at first. You will eventually get used to it, and it won't feel funny at all anymore. -- Nate Zeien

I know the feeling, Bob. I went over six months of playing only on my contra alto and when I went back to my soprano in another band, it felt so tiny. I had to get used to more and qicker notes too as on my contra, I just mostly oom-pah along.

I just finished playing in the pit orchestra for Stephen Sondheim's "A Little Night Music" on the Reed 3 book that requires bass and soprano. Never in my life did I think it would wear out my embouchure the way it did! Of course, I don't regret it at all, but it made my teacher remind me that my major was in soprano clarinet, not musical pit orchestra.

I absolutely love the entire clarinet family, but yes, the Bb soprano feels so little compared to bass. It even feels smaller after playing A.

I had this problem in college. I played E-flat clarinet in the wind ensemble, bass clarinet in the orchestra and bari sax in the stage band. When I played my B-flat, my fingers felt like they were going into the holes of a bowling ball. My mouth didn't have a clue, and is still struggling.

B-flat may be phat, but the Bass is Boss!

Did you have that feeling that you were going to break the poor thing? I get that feeling a lot.

I play Contra during most of high school (and made all-state my senior year in Texas), but in college I found that there just isnt a demand, so I play Bb Soprano.... Yea I feel the difference, of course I play faster and more notes (actually no if your comparing it to the tryout music for reigon/area/state band... I played that really fast and there was lots of notes)....
