Has anyone found a replacement for cigarette paper that you can re-use that DOESN'T cost $11 for two little pieces like the BG Pad Absorber? Anything I've looked at either unravels, or would leave lint or fibers on the pads.

I buy a pack of cigarette paper, use each piece a few times after I blow out the water and a pack lasts me for years for a buck and a quarter. I guess it cost that much now because I haven't had to buy a pack for several years now. It's best to ask for the type that doesn't have glue on it but if you can't find that just fold that side over to a double thickness on that side. By the way, when the pad is soaked yo can first use a piece of a silk swab then use the paper. ESP

Jeanne, Inc., the mail order house in Minnesota, sells OCB cigarette papers for $1 a pack. I bought 15 packs early last year and still have most of them.

From your description I assume you mean to use for putting under pads to soak the water. For this I use the swab, although it's sometimes a bit harder to slide it under the pad. I use a type that doesn't leave any fibers.

Or use kitchen roll such as Bounty/Plenty as that doesn't tear so easily.
Merely blotting pads with cigarette papers in a vain attempt to clear the water won't wick all the water from toneholes. Your best bet is to shake the joint and then blow the water from the offending toneholes, then dry the pad and top of the tonehole by closing the pad against the blotting paper, then open the key to remove the paper instead of pulling it out from under the closed pad as that will either tear the paper or scuff the pad.
Far too many people fart-arse around with cigarette papers and they don't even resolve the issue.

I've only ever seen flautists use ciggie papers. Usually I just huff into or across the offending hole. But I do like the dollar bill idea, cos of course money is made from cotton and not paper. If you accidentally 'launder' a note in your jeans pocket it genereally survives intact. However I believe that buying the kind of 'paper' they print banknotes on is quite difficult, for obvious reasons ;-D

Just don't eat it afterwards - presuming that's the same sort of rice paper communion wafers are made from.
At least with flutes there's only the trills, the thumb key and the G# (and if fitted, the C# trill and high G-A trill) toneholes that usually get water in them, and the toneholes are large and shallow enough for the cigarette paper to do the job.

If you blow down into the tone-hole, then much of the water will go into the bore....... if you blow across the tone-hole, the lower pressure of moving air will suck the water out.
Which is best? Don't ask me...... I'm too busy a'huffin' and a'puffin.

Blow the water into the bore, then use a pullthrough to dry the bore and blotting paper to dry the affected pads and toneholes.
I know it's tedious, but there's not much else to do to remedy things.

Blowing water in the tonehole is very unprofessional, and I try to avoid doing that because it just carries over the orchestra and can be very distracting.

Yeah - try not to do this during a quiet passage! Blowing into toneholes is the best way to clear them, but be considerate when doing this.
These things inevitably happen at the most inopportune moments, so do try to deal with them in a way that won't cause any grief to those around you.
