... and Tom Ridenour has just about everything he makes on sale. Now would be the time to stock up, if you have been looking at some of his products. Even basses, C, A and Basset clarinets are on sale. Accessories, too. Check out his latest vid on Youtube for details.
Unfortunately, there still is no eefer available at any price.
Disclaimer: I have no financial interests in Ridenour Clarinet Products...I am just a happy customer.

... wonderful as his clarinets may be, Tom's web page design definitely leaves room for improvement. Clicking on the link above brought me to a web page with a 64 MB Quicktime Movie embedded. Took me about 12 minutes to load, my browser being frozen (Quicktime doesn't integrate too well with Internet Explorer when it comes to blocking waits).
Embedding huge videos in a way that makes you wait for the whole video before the page can be displayed is a BAD IDEA (tm).

Try using Firefox instead of IE. I see no reason to chain yourtself to a really bad browser. I haven;t used IE much for two years. THe only time I do is when there is a site that specifically requires that I use IE.
THer reason he put a video there was to go over EVERYTHING that's on sale. There's a lot of stuff.
As I mentioned in the earlier post, you alco could have gone to his YouTube video. Probably even IE would work well there.
Regardless of how his video worked with your particular computer setup, the message about the sale was the important part. BTW... I am using a 7 year old Dell to run my Internet access. I had nop trouble whatsoever loading the info. I don't have a really fast connection, either (just DSL).

Embedding a 64MB file to tell people about a sale is just Stupid Business Practice, browser notwithstanding. I can read a hell of a lot faster than he can talk.

Agree. You should NEVER embed a video in a homepage, that is for an overview and nothing turns off a customer more than needing to wait (and wait and wait) for a 64MB video to buffer.
If you feel you must use video, it should NEVER autostart - a still and a play button are fine, then the user at least has a choice.
And yes, Internet Explorer is about the worst "modern" browser available.

Well, the video is not embedded in the homepage. I provided the same link that is on the homepage.
Most of Tom's communications have been through video since he started his YouTube videos, and I guess he figured he likes that way of getting the message out. If you are experiencing the problems as described above, simply go to his YouTube page and watch the video there. I think it's #62 in the series. It loaded instantaneously for me when I first viewed it. In fact, that's how I learned about the sale.

When I went to the 1st link Quicktime started up. In explorer. In Firefox. In Chrome (my current preferred browser). The web page itself shows an autoplay embedded movie - I did a wget on the page and examined the source. If the movie didn't autoload & play, YOUR browser is set up different than bog standard.

If he wants to sell something via Youtube that's great - I EXPECT video. If he's thinking that the same holds true for his web page ... well, his prerogative. He might want to consult a few books on marketing via the Web - it'd probably help.
The above rant has nothing to do with his products - I own none and have no opinion on how good they are.

Mark, I just loaded his homepage from my work computer, which defaults to MS IE . I don't have a choice of browaers here, as they will not let us install softare (for good reasons) on a college newtork station. In any case, when I loaded his homepage, no movie, Quicktime or otherwise, started up. There was a hyperlink on the page to direct you to the movie, but you could get to the homepage anbd navigate to other pages on his site without ever having to watch the video.
Maybe we are talking about the same things but using different technology. i don't pretend to be an IT guru, so my terms may be a little incorrect. I know you Are much better versed in this tham I, so I won't challenge your statements on that subject. All I can relay though, is that based on personal experience everything functined fine for me without the issues others are experiencinbg or reporting.

FWIW, I also experienced the involuntary, slow video load. When I tried to quit the site rather than wait for it to get old enough to vote, I couldn't get loose except by cold-booting the computer.

I removed the link from my original post. Check out the YouTube version, and it should work much better.

And so the real question is:
Why not just post the list of sale prices, and links to order?
I'm interested, but I played about 60s of the QuickTime file and just gave up. There's no reason to insert that barrier - tell me what the numbers/offers are (in text) and I'll decide what to do.

I remember he had a sale before last or was it the other Christmas were he said that there will not be a sale again on his clarinets. Well there have been at least 2 more sales since then and now the third one. Sale trick going on here?

I suppose sales are a bad thing, Iceland. What's wrong with paying less than normal for quality? Do you enjoy paying full price? If so, please let me show you some wonderful waterfront investment property opportunities in Arizona, Nevada and Southern Morocco.
Many companies would like to move merchandise at this time of year. For some businesses, the time between mid-November and Christmas account for more than 40% of their annual sales. In today's economy, many merchants would gladly reduce their prices a little to move goods out the door.
By the way, I would be happy to sell you any number of clarinets and accessories for the full manufacturer's suggested price. Don't worry about how much I pay for them, just send the payment for the full list price, and I'll do the rest. I might even throw in shipping to a point halfway between your home and mine.

Noqu: It's now on a clickable link on the home page so it doesn't start to load automatically. When I clicked the link it went to a new page, starting to load and adblocker flashed its little icon so I could just block the load if I wanted. It's MUCH faster if you go to youTube (also a link on Tom's page). Regarding your browser I'd recommend you install firefox (free download) and some of the more useful add-ons such as adblocker, ghostery, surfclarity, betterprivacy or TACO.
