If you are indeed in Apex, N.C., as your Internet address suggests, then you are about 160 miles east of Boone, N.C., the home of a very fine woodwind shop called Muncy Winds. You should be able to try many kinds of mouthpieces and ligatures there. The prices are good and the service, according to those who have patronized Muncy, is excellent.

Check out Muncy's Web site. If you don't mind the drive, it may be worth your while.

If it's too far, Muncy has a very efficient mail-order business.
