hey it's me. I am not a happy camper today. I just wasted an hour being stupid and an hour is alot of time.
Anyways, i have questions again, so thx again.

1. barrels: ok i understand why mouthpieces are sold seperatly(ppl's mouth's are different) as well as ligatures(holds the reed differently) but why barrels? I've always thought barrels were a part of the clarinet body. If your going to make a professional clarinet why not make the barrel a premium and not have ppl go upgrading it? Also if barrels are sold seperatly, why not upper joints, lower joints, or bells?
Here's an idea. Why doesn't anyone use a selmer bell, buffet upper joint, yamaha lower joint, and an leblanc barrel? That way when ppl ask u what brand u play u can say u don't have to worry about them feeling negative towards your brand.

2. yamaha custom 4cm mouthpiece: this MP came with my ycl-650 and i was just wondering how much $$ these mouthpieces are worth by themselves?

3. WWBW lets you have trials are mouthpieces, but does the same go for ligatures?

thx alot guys. I apreciate it.

That's a good concept - though it might become true sooner than you think when all makers are owned by the one company - Leblanc and Selmer are now part of the same group, so it'll only be a matter of time for Buffet and Yamaha to be part of that group. So, do you think the group will be owned by Yamaha or Steinway?

2. Yamaha Custom mouthpieces are listed on Howarth's site for £68 which is a lot less than standard Vandoren mouthpieces which are £89.

3. I'd assume ligatures can also be sent out on approval, provided you return the ones you don't want in as new condition.

Barrels are made from different types of wood and different makes have different bore sizes and configurations as well as lengths of course. Some are reverse bores and some are not. The way the bore is cut has a large influence in the barrels tone and intonation. Some can make the tone more or less focused, especially in the throat tones and altissimo registers and can make one register sharper or flatter and of course the woods make a difference in the tone quality, as does the bore. Larger bore, smaller bore, reverse bore, larger on top, smaller on top, how it tapers from the top to the bottom all make a difference.
The famous English clarinet of the past, Jack Brymer, says in his book "Clarinet" the he considers the barrel to be more part of the mouthpiece then the clarinet, I agree in terms of how it effects the tone and intonation. Hope this helps. ESP
