This is a note from Lenny's friend, who is with him in Rotterdam.
"Greetings,
Leonard is looking and feeling very good. He slept quite well last night, had a breakfast of hospital oatmeal (the food here is the only thing we complain about) and took a walk up and down the hallway.
Three cardiologists just saw Leonard to explain what will happen today and tomorrow . . .
The optimistic forecast would be for him to have an echocardiogram this afternoon and a bicycle stress test tomorrow. If both of these indicate a more normalized state of the heart, we will travel back to the States on Saturday. The other scenario is that one of these tests shows abnormalities, in which case there would be a procedure to correct the remaining defects in the heart. Most likely that would require that Leonard remain in the hospital for another week. However, Leonard just did a test run on the bike, pedaling rigorously for five minutes with no ill effects. So he is guardedly optimistic. So hopefully tomorrow, after the “tour de Len” we can arrange transportation back to States.
The hours go by at the hospital rather quickly for me. And Leonard seems to be doing OK with that too. We watch DVDs on his computer and talk with the nurses - some Dutch, a Romanian, and an American so far. Everyone speaks English.
Leonard has a roommate now, so it’s a bit more difficult for him to get rest with all of the extra activity. But he’s always been good at power-napping and can usually pick up 30 minutes here and there throughout the day.
