 breathing problem
Author: clibo

Hi,

I've been having a breathing problem for quite a while now. Problem is that it's like to much pressure build up and eventually I cannot even take a breath in. This breaks the flow in pieces with long continuous phrases.

Any recommendations??

Maybe you're breathing in too much at a time?

Depending how you're breathing you must explicitly exhale even though you are implicitly exhaling via playing. (try some marching and playing uphill and you know what you mean).

Maybe you should breathe a bit more shallow (not so much at any time); playing actually requires very little air.

I've ALWAYS exhaled the remaining lungs' worth of air just before an inhilation. Really, how do you you know just how much air to take in?

This seems like the same question asked in a recent thread - try http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=314315&t=314315. If the link doesn't work, just go to the top, click on <Older Posts> and look for a topic called "Take My Breath Away."

I agree with Paul - I try to take in as full a breath as possible most of the time, but I also routinely exhale before taking in a fresh breath. Others in the older thread advocated taking only enough breath for the upcoming phrase.
