The headmaster of the school where I teach a few hours a week asked me to play a solo with the string orchestra of the school. In this orchestra are mostly young string players between 10 and 15 years old. The concert is only on the 1st of May 2010, so there is time to practice, but as this is not the most important part of the concert, it can not be extremely difficult or long.
Also, the problem is that this is a private institution that works with lots of volunteers, therefore they don't have much money. So I have to look for pieces that are available for free on internet, or in the library of the conservatory where I study.
Can anyone recommend me pieces for clarinet and string orchestra (or string quartet) with an interesting clarinet part and not too difficult parts for the strings?
Thanks for helping me.
Cecilia

One possibility is the Concertino of Tartini, which was taken from two of his violin sonatas and arranged for clarinet and string orchestra by Gordon Jacob (published by Boosey and Hawkes). I have the clarinet-piano version in front of me, but I've never seen the string parts. I wouldn't imagine that they're difficult, although I'm not sure if they're easy to obtain.
If really necessary, you could probably create your own string parts, and I don't think this would be all that difficult.
