Hi, has anybody heard of or used the Morgan mouthpiece before? If so, I would appreciate all feedback, as I am considering buying one.

I tried one before I purchased my Greg Smith mouthpiece. I really did not care for the mouthpiece, as the sound was bright and unfocused. Maybe I just had the wrong style of mouthpiece...

I played a Morgan RM10 for 2 years in high school. At the time it felt great, mostly because it was the first non-stock mouthpiece I had. Once I got to college, I found that the Morgan was too bright and unfocused and caused a lot of problems, especially blends with a section.
I'm currently plying on a Greg Smith and I love it.
I wouldn't recommend a Morgan.

I have one of Ralph's mouthpieces, and i tried some of the closer facings he had at ClarinetFest in July. The one i have is too open for me, but his closer facings work and sound fairly good.. I have some friends that use them and had a wonderful sound and response... been trying to sell the one i have for a couple months.. no luck yet though...

I bought a Morgan RM15 a few years ago, and I found it to be quite comfortable to play on and it showed good response throughout the register. I tried several others at the time, Combs, Leblanc crystal, and a Vandoren B40. I played on a Vandoren B45 for years, but it was not as open and didn't have the projection I was looking for. I have not tried the Bay, but have one for the Bass Cl. and love it. I would suggest trying the Bay M-O-M, Morgan RM15, and a couple of the the Vandorens being praised on these fairly recent pages. I like the Vandoren V12 premium reeds in 2 1/2, 3, and 3 1/2, depending on your playing level and the facing/lay of the mouthpiece. Prior posts mentioned the brightness and uncentered tone, but I can't report similar findings on the RM15.

I had a Morgan and found it to be too open for my liking. The profile was more sax like and therfore I had more mouthpiece in my mouth than I was used to. I did have Ralph Morgan reface an old Selmer metal mouthpiece of mine ... and wow what a job... Plays like a dream ... looks funny on the end of my barrel so I don't use it... it was originaly for metal clarinets Selmer made in the early 20's.

Hi John .... sorry but Ralph has already ask for it first, but it is so unique, I will not be selling it any time soon. With the outside dimensions being so much smaller, I had to make a special ligature for it. When Patrick Selmer came to Canada for Clarinet fest in Quebec City ohhh... about 10 years ago, I showed the mouthpiece to him and he had never seen one like it ... a definite collectors item!!

Thank you for your interest. If I find something, I will let you know. Happy playing!

Mickey
