I have found piano music for You Raise Me UP by Josh Groban. I DO know how to transpose but I have had trouble finding the melody line for it without all of the notes stacked up on one another. I have only been able to transpose a few of the measures. Anyone have this piece or a website where you do not have to download software that I could use for personal use? Thanks for your help,

Just to point it out. You raise me up is stolen and is 97% like the song Söknuður by Jóhann Helgason which came out on the album Hana-Nú in 1977 and sung by the Icelandic pop master Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson who sadly died in a cars accident in Luxembourg on 28th of March 1978 only 32 years old when he was on a duty as a flight pilot.
Jóhann has been suing Rolf Løvland the author of You raise me up(it was to be set up for trial this spring or summer don't know where it is now) and he can prove that this guy was here in Iceland last decade and got the recording of the song while he was here recording with his band Secret Garden(winner of Eurovision 1995). And this is pretty big case and as I said Jóhann has strong evidence against Rolf.

I thought You Raise Me Up sounded a lot like Danny Boy...? Or is that what you're referring to IC?

No I'm referring to the Icelandic song Söknuður(Longing) Which I posted a link to.
The first three verses translates something like this:
I feel nether a whole or half man and rather helpless,that's too bad.
If you were with me, I would happy become better than I am.
One time every men has to die. After bright day comes the night.
I deplore that, but still I have to say, that the summer has past by too fast.
We could sing,walk around, forget ourselves with the flowers.
When darks hit we could solve the horoscope.
Walk together hand in hand,quietly walk down to beach.
Found a place,combine both our souls.
It's not perfect but you get the idea.

To me, the melody sounds like a mix of both 'When A Child Is Born' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DasqYiQK7HQ&feature=related and 'Danny Boy/Londonderry Air', though it was based on 'Danny Boy/Londonderry Air'.
Still reminds me of the vomit-inducing manufactured pop act I call 'wetlife' all sitting on bar stools dressed in white suits and they stand up half way through to gesticulate and stare into the camera even more. Stuff of nightmares.

I did hear the similarities between the two. However, which artist has not copied or sung something that is similar to the orignal song? I was looking for sheet music to You Raise Me Up. Does anyone have any suggestions other than YouTube?

Well, is it a vocal/piano arrangement or a solo piano arrangement of the song?
If it's a vocal/piano sheet, then you can just play the vocal line alone. If you want to play it with a pianist, then you'll have to play each note up a whole step. This takes a little practice but can be done without writing it out.
If it is a solo piano arrangement and you just want to play the melody, then find those notes (usually on the top of each stacked chord) and just play them alone. You could even use a highlighter to color each note you'd need. I'd recommend against trying this type of arrangement with another musician though, because it'd double the line and transposing while picking out which note is the melody is a little trickier!

I think both of those songs sound similar too Danny Boy maybe around 60-70% alike but I think that they sound much more alike to each other.

Just a plug for supporting the artist, publisher, and your local music store -- the music's only 4 bucks. I'm not aware of legal free sources for print music that is this recent.

I played a choral arrangement last year for Graduation(most nerveracking performance ever in high school). I played off the violin part and just transposed. It was a really nasty key, at least that arrangement. Made me wish I had an A.

Raise Me Up (words & music by Rolf Lovland & Brendan Graham) is one of the songs included in the Guest Spot series. It is entitled 21st Century Hits Playalong for Clarinet. Includes a CD with full instrumentation plus the usual minus one tracks & of course the notation. There are 9 other songs included in this album. The backing tracks are excellent. I have used this song from this series at several weddings and seemed to have pleased my audience well with it.

Barry It's been proved that You Raise me up is 97% alike Söknuður. And the very respected UK Law firm Knight & Sons took the case in their hands. Jóhann said in Icelandic newspaper 29th May 2008:
"The lawyers from Knight & Sons say that they have a very good case in their hands. In this kind of cases the copyright has been divided,but in this case the songs are very similar. You can't take a song and just put new lyrics to it. I've seen many songs in Idol that gets new arrangement but in fact there are much more difference there than between those two songs."
And btw the law firm thought it was such a strong case that they took it and will not get payed unless they will win it.

Doesn't mean diddly-squat until proven ... and taking speculative cases is very common in the legal profession.
