 older vs. new R13s

It has been suggested to me that older (circa 1965) R13 Buffets are better than a new one. It seems that in the mid-70s Buffet had a fire which destoyed their supply of well-aged wood. It was suggested that the wood used now is more likely to have problems with cracking. Does anyone have any experience to support this? Was it perhaps true for a while immediately after the fire, but since rectified? Thanks.

I don't know about all that, but I do know that I had 3 new Buffet R13 upper joints develop massive cracks last year, each within the first 3 months of being carefully broken in. The 4th one (each replaced under warranty) has been fine, but admittedly I don't play it much because switched to a Rossi.

I don't know, lots of people have said a whole lot of different things... I have a brand new R-13 Vintage, that so far (I've had it for about 3 months now) is fine.... so I don't really know
