 Buffet BC 2526.CU
Author: Coomkeen

Just looked up my Buffet on their web site, and typed in the serial number -

Brand : Buffet Crampon
Instrument : BC 2526.CU
Serial number : 38825
Year of manufacturing : 19/05/1995

Anyone know anything about a BC 2526 CU?
Presumably the BC is Buffet Crampon.
But 2526? and CU?

Where did it come in the range at that time?

What are the markings on your clarinet? It's possible that your instrument is not in the serial number database. AFAIK, Buffet's Paris-made clarinet models (the only ones that would be in the list) begin with a 1. Oboes begin with a 3 or a 4 and bassoons begin with a 5. I can't find a similar model number for any of the current saxophones but I wonder if it didn't begin with a 2. It would be consistent with a CU, which could stand for copper.

A Buffet professional soprano clarinet with your serial number would not be in the list (too old). With the markings, we might be able to tell what you have and whether it should be in the list.

Best regards,
jnk

that serial number would put it in the late 1940s

pictures would help us alot too to confirm the approximate age

Isn't this just a pre R-13 model because of the open A and Ab keys posts are mounting together ?

Yes I guess so.
About mid 1949 from the serial number.
Would that be about right?

From the logo, the keywork (the shared post that Iceland describes and also the triangular trill key guide) and the serial number, it looks to me like you have a professional Buffet soprano clarinet from the late 1940's. It's serial number is not in the serial number database at the Buffet website. That database only goes back to around 1954 for professional sopranos, if memory serves. Your instrument should have a cylindrical "Master Bore."

On this Board, such instruments are often referred to as "pre-R13" to distinguish them from the later polycylindrical bore clarinets designated R13 by Buffet since the 1950s. Prior to Buffet's adopting this designation officially, however, Carl Fischer, Buffet's U.S. importer, used the designation R13 for instruments like yours at least as far back as the 1930's so, in a sense, you have an "original" R13.

Best regards,
jnk

Thanks very much for that Jack.

The bore is indeed cylindrical, being about 15mm all the way through until about 3" from the bell joint, where it gradually widens out to about 23mm.

Thanks again.

Ron
