The conductor of the local community band has asked me for suggestions for a clarinet duet with band accompaniment.
The only two pieces that I know of that have been scored for band accompaniment and that I would recommend are "Il Convegno" and the Mendelssohn "Concertpiece" no. 113.
I'm sure there are scads of novelty pieces out there, but those won't fit the bill. They need something leaning toward the serious side.
Both clarinetists are advanced, early college-level players who would be able to cut the Ponchielli or the Mendelssohn. The band, however, is undisciplined, and probably wouldn't be able to do much more than the bum-da-da-bum stuff, so the accompaniment would have to be on the simple (or should I say "straightforward") side.
Suggestions?
Thanks!
B.

"Rondo Concertante" by Benard Tuttle (two clarinets with band acc.) has always been a favorite of mine. I played it on tour with my old college concert band and years later with our local municipal band (and the same clarinetist partner).

Is the spelling correct for the Tuttle? I can't find that piece anywhere. Thanks!

I found the Rondo Concertante by Burnet Tuthill, but it is out of print. Hmmm I am intrigued, though. Any idea where I can get a copy?
