Hi,
I am just wondering if anyone knows of any sites that have classical standards (ie. public domain) music to download for free or for cheap.
Most download sites I've seen are just pop tunes or short arranged versions of classical music.
To start the list-

wikipedia has this thing called the international music library project. I got the clarinet parts for both of Weber's concertos from it, for what its worth.

Just downloaded Pathetique for Clarinet Bassoon, and Piano by Glinka from this one. They have a ton of solo works and chamber music. some posted a link to it a few weeks ago on the board.

If you can read or puzzle out Cyrillic characters, the Boris Tarakanov site is very good---but one has to exercise judgment of what is public domain in the West vs. the larger question of what is available in Russia.
<http://notes.tarakanov.net/>
This link takes you directly to sheet music offerings, alphabetized by author, and in MUS, PDF, JPG and/or TIFF formats. The site also lists selections by specific instrument, but it's a heck of a lot easier to search by composer if you aren't fluent. And remember that Russians spell somewhat phonetically, within their own alphabet. Thus, Tschaikovsky begins with an inverted "h" (ч) for "ch", and Khatchaturian with an "x" for "kh". West European and American composers are fairly well represented, too, but again, their names are spelled phonetically. You'll find Ravel under "P" and Weber under "B"---look for Bach under Бах (that's beta-a-x, in case the BBoard doesn't support Cyrillic characters.)

Thanks for all those suggestions. I have found quite a lot of great music. I think I will have to buy some cartridges for my printer soon.

sibeliusmusic.com and finalemusic.com also have some good scores, especially the former.
