A report from the new synthetic reed camp: I am playing Forestone #4's on my Chicago Kaspar #14 mpc and just recently--as For. doesn't yet (if ever) offer a true Eb reed--tried cutting down a F4 to fit my effer mouthpiece. It worked so well that I was immediately able to play an entire gig with it. So, a cut-down Bb F4 played well on my Eb HS* mpc with just the right resistance--F# & G6's "popped" right out every time with relative ease. It has been my past experiance that Bb reeds play with a bit more strength on the Eb mouthpiece than do true Eb reeds, so try using the same strength Bb reed cut down for your effer and see for yourself. For me, I like the new Forestones over cane--just wish they would expand their product line to include bass and sax reeds. So far it has only been Bb reeds, but they keep promising........
