 Tounging

Should your tounge be placed at the tip of the reed or more towards the center? I have heard both methods, I was wondering how you all play and what method works the best.

Tip! Alot easier. Plus you don't use much of the clarity of the tonguing, even if it is right on the tip. Tonguing is just tonguing, no matter where, or how.

I recommend using the tip of the tongue on the tip of the reed. As far as I know, this is what is being taught in the vast majority of American music schools. (Unfortunately, I'm not as aware of what is being taught in other nations. I'd be curious to know if there is a difference elsewhere.) The clarity of tonguing seems better to me this way, and the speed is faster.

I'm transitioning. I'm only a few months into playing, and had been tounging further in. It seemed to me that this made a rather harsh break. I played around a bit and found that when tounging the tip, I had better control and could soften the break. I like that better.

The tip allows you to have cleaner articulation, and it sets it up for better and easier double tounging.

What? Don't Brits tongue on the left side of the reed and Yanks on the right?
