I've seen the metal barrels, rubber barrels, and wooden barrels used plenty on wooden clarinets. But has anyone tried a custom barrel of any type on a hard rubber one? Specifically a Ridenour? I know he (Mr. Ridenour) makes custom barrels as well, but I'm wondering if anyone has done a swap-aroo with another barrel they have and have any impressions.
Curiosity is gripping me at the moment. I don't even have my Lyrique available to try it, but I'm just curious if someone else has.

Not a common request, but yes.
I have supplied (rubber, delrin and )wooden barrels for such instruments. Yes, they do get ordered.
disclaimer...I make and sell custom clarinet barrels.

I'm currently using a MOBA 66 on a synthetic Bliss clarinet and it's working great.

I put my customized mouthpiece and barrel on my nephew's plastic beginner clarinet. There was next to no difference between it and my R-13.
The closer to your body the part of the clarinet is, the bigger its effect.

Why not just use the hard rubber barrel that came with the Ridenour. Why is it defective or something ? It would be as good as any.

I've used Yamaha and no-name 64.5mm barrels on many imported clarinets with little difference - some appeared to play better than others, but I have no statistically relevant figures; it's a trial and error gamen, not entirely different of what you'd go through with a wooden clarinet.

I have a couple of fine playing, black plastic barrels , the 66 mm in partic., with a well worn circle in which I can barely read "Sounds of Music". They were given me by a V G repairer friend. Since we are "Rolling out the Barrel" Thot I'd ask you experts about these and maker if known. I seem to have a full barrel , some cls that passed thru me had extras and I bot several older Selmers to match? my several Sel's. By and large I've only found a few that seem to be extraorinary on both wood and HR cls. Tks for any help, Don

Funny you should mention that. A few weeks ago I was sorting out my clarinets after the summer break. Normally I use a full boehm R13 for concerts and a cheap hard rubber student Hanson for outside.
I had a Greg Smith MP with a Pyne barrel already put together so I played for a minute or so thinking what a great clarinet! Beautiful velvety tone!
Then I realised that it felt lighter and the penny dropped. I'd put it on the cheap Hanson by mistake.
I know everyone says how important the MP and barrels are, but I've never had such an eye opening experience as that!
