Our amatuer adult orchestra is playing a piece originally commissioned by this high school,Stephen F Austin, so looking at what it requires of the clarinets I thought I would see if they were on you tube, and oh my goodness, listen to their clarinets with the List Hunagarian Rhapsody ! This is some high school! Those are some clarinetists ! I'm ready to just throw mine away now..(no, its not the Hungarian Rhapsody that we're trying to play)

Thanks for the link. They opened Austin HS a couple of years after I graduated from high school to relieve enrollment at my high school (Clements HS). I'd never heard their orchestra play before, though. They're pretty good. Their principal clarinetist is REALLY good.
When I was in high school, the school district was just starting to implement orchestra programs in the schools. We had a very strong band program, but the orchestras were new. The orchestra class was for strings only, and they'd pull the top few chairs from each section in the top band to fill the wind chairs for contest. We never traveled out of state for contest with the orchestra, though. The Fort Bend ISD orchestra programs have clearly come a long way!
