I've tried them a few times throughout the years and I really love the way the signature sounds. It had a beautiful "german" like tone quality and the intonation was consistent through all registers.
When I was picking out my Bb R-13 a few years back I really liked the Signature back then but chickened out in purchasing one because I had an R-13 A and I knew of no one who played them.
Besides those who endorse them, anyone else out there play Signatures?

Just a word re personal Signiture experiance. I played one about three years ago that seemed--at the store--to be the 'best' clarinet I had ever played. However, in taking it to a rehearsal and playing it for a full evening, I discovered that it had serious projection and tonal foucusing issues that I did not initially realize. Maybe it was just a bad one, but I was fortunately able to return it and continue playing my Leblanc Concerto with its great tonal focus from soft to loud and sound. I have since switched back to my old vintage Buffet R13's (A & Bb) just because I like their basic sound and projection. My advice is if you do find a Signiture that sounds good in the store, you should try it out in an ensemble before you put your money down on the counter. An instruments true playing qualities can only be determined during a "trial by fire" real playing situation. Good luck.

Yes Todd Levy does play one, Principal in Milwaukee,I play one, Baltimore Symphony, and I know that Steve Williamson, principal at the Met in NY plays one too and before Backun came out with his line of instruments that Ricardo Morales helped develop he used it as well as did the 2nd player at the Met, Jessica Phillips. I'm not sure if she switched to the Backun as well. I suspect many others play it too that we just don't know. By the way, I have no problem projecting on my Signature. ESP http://eddiesclarinet.com

It is my understanding that the Met section is now an all-Leblanc/Backun Legacy/Symphonie section, but was previously an all Selmer section, with 2 on Recitals and 2 on Signatures.

I use the Selmer Signature with a backun-morales barrel and Fobes Cicero
Mouthpiece. I love it , have no projection problems and also have used it
on Jazz gigs , shows as well as in orchestral settings and recordings

We have one member who plays on a Signature in my ensemble. Having played it once in a reheharsal, I found it to have the warmest/darkest/fullest (whatever word you would like to use) bottom sound I have ever heard and have had the pleasure of producing on a Bb.

I always liked the basic sound and even intonation of the Signature, however, now that Selmer has the Privilege, there are NO projection problems at all !!!

I Would like to hear an extended review with your experience playing Privilege, if you have the time.

I agree with what one member of the forum said about the clarinets. They do almost sound like German clarinets. I have never played any wurlitzer reform beohm clarinets but I'd imagine that selmer has gotten closer than them in the french market than anyone else.

I am a collge performance major and i love my signature! the sound is dark, round and smooth throughout the registers. the only issue with the signature is that you have to find just the right setup to reach it's full potential (like a 62 barrell). the bore and resistance is different than a buffet. also, there were also several simple technical adjustments i had to make like lowering the key height, lightening up the springs, and tapering the octave key.
