I don't know who's playing the clarinet, but the audio file is a snippet from a 1941 Columbia recording of "Peter and the Wolf" played by "The All American Orchestra," narrated by Basil Rathbone, and conducted by Stokowski. (www.archive.org has the full recording.)
An example of how things were done in the old days, before editing was easy: one take, and minimal, if any, editing. (Tape recording was new then.)
An object lesson to those who listen to modern recordings and think that pros must never (and never do) make mistakes.

I've played that dozens of times in my life and I have to say if I didn't play it perfectly one time I didn't go home and kick the dog and beat the wife. This player could have played it correctly at 20 auditions and 100 performances and just screwed it up this time. Surprise world, even the pros are not perfect every time, but most are damn close. If this was the norm he wouldn't have lasted very long with Stoky. ESP http://eddiesclarinet.com

Ed, my point exactly!
With today's technology, however, there are many who really do believe that pros never screw up, and insist on (not "prefer') perfection at all times from them as well as themselves.
