 Selmer CL201??
Author: Monia

Hello everyone. All I wanted was a decent (wood) Selmer for my daughter who has been playing for nine years. Truly thought I had thoroughly researched the subject. My problem? My stupidity and e-bay. Received the clarinet...no identifying emblems but, there is a serial number on the upper joint P0022134. I can't find any info. Questions to the seller went unanswered. Yes, I did bid on the horn, but I thought I was low balling the auction. Now I'm the owner of (possibly) a no name Bb (I think) clarinet. I know, I know...buyer beware! I'm hoping, that with all the knowledge on this BB, someone can turn this disgruntled Mother into a happy clam! Thank you for your time.

Can you post a photo or two?

Hi Jeff, hopefully the pics come through alright! Not sure of the angles needed. Let me know if you need others.

Does look fine to me - the key cups look Selmerish, and the three tenon caps are a sign of a quality instrument.

Dunno if the logos are usually engraved or just stamped-on and got washed away, somehow.

I just looked it up on wwbw.com and that looks fine to me judging by the photo:

And on Conn-Selmer's site: http://www.selmer.com/content/product.php?item=CL201

Monia,

I sent an email to Selmer (Conn-Selmer) to find out for you for sure what model it is and when it was made per the serial number. I will let you know what their records show.

When did they change their keywork/touchpiece shapes so they don't look so utilitarian?

Monia,

Based on your serial number, your clarinet is officially a Selmer CL201EX made in March 2004. The "EX" simply means that it was a model made for Export outside of the USA.

Thank you so much Dave! Mystery solved, anxiety down, and I can't wait to hear my daughter express herself through her Selmer CL201! Many thanks to all of you that responded. Each of you made my days a bit calmer, to say the least. Perhaps, finally, I have beaten "Murphy's Law".
