In Uhl #45, 21 measures before the end, just before the original theme recurs, my copy (Schott) contains an extra half beat. How should this be handled?
My best sounding guess makes the final in that bar a 16th and the following 32nd sextolet a 64th sextolet. However, the only notated breath mark in the piece is placed between those two entities. Is a pause there so indicated? If so, then the lead-up might be different.
It's funny, I trashed my way through the piece quite a few times before I slowed down enough to notice the discrepancy.

The low Bb3 shoud be a sixteenth note, instead of the written eighth note.
I would treat the written breath mark as a cessura.

That's what I meant in my post where I left out a word! Thanks.
I think I understand about the cessura; Uhl apparently intended to break the two-beat pattern in this measure. This study is musically interesting.

That still doesn't solve the problem. Even if you turn the eighth note into a sixteenth, there is still an extra sixteenth in that bar.
Since the three dotted sixteenths and three thirty seconds add up to three eighth notes, the rest of the measure (the written eighth Bb and the following thirty-second grouping of six) has to be an eighth to complete a 2/4.
One could change the grouping of six two sixty-fourths and the low Bb to a sixteenth, but this would alter the main motive at the recapitulation.
I personally would change that bar to 5/8, but I'm certainly not a musicologist...

The change to a 16th plus sextolet in 64ths sounds better to me. It accents the start of the recapitulation. The main theme isn't really changing, as the sextolet is essentially a pickup, and the change only occurs that once.
I also like the idea of the preceding cessura indicating a pause as well as a breath. Compare for example the same place in #25, where Uhl actually adds a firmata over the only breath mark. I haven't looked further yet.
