I got one several years ago, kind of figured it out (though not completely) and then it broke. I got it fixed, but still can't figure it out. Can anyone recommend someone in NYC to help out? I'l happily pay for a few lessons.

Dear Kenabbott,
I'm sorry to hear of your plight, but don't quite know what you're talking about. Given your diverse audience here, could you, please (even with help from some C3PO) explain what you have, including its brand and configuration, so that somebody might guide your search. best wishes

Wind Synthesizer: Yamaha WX-5 with VL70-m tone generator. It's the standard issue wind synthesizer.

Ken,
Is that one of those things that you blow into and has a keyboard?

You want to join the wind synth list on Yahoo, and there are a few guys on that list that can answer any questions about wind synth there are. I myself an pretty proficient with the WX5, EWI 4000s and EWI USB. I routinely use the VL70 turbo, a vl70 with an aftermarket chip replacement, as well as many soft synths. I'd start with a visit to the Patchman music web site also. I'll I can say is I wish my Backun bell made a difference on my wind synths.

Bought one of these many years ago. Now use it in woodwind lecture recitals. The manual, if you need one, is still available on the Yamaha web site. Hope you find someone near you to help you out.

If you're looking for lessons, get in touch with Bernie Kennersen @http://www.berniekenerson.com/news.html He is a masterful EWI player. He has been helping me out with software instruments for a recording project I'm working on. We've done a few lessons over skype and they've worked out great for fixing some of the problems I've encountered. The other site I recommend for WX-5 is
http://www.nortonmusic.com/wx5.html#top
This is a very good site for setting up a WX5 and worth doing exactly as he says, untill you figure out a way that works with how you play. I play both the WX5 and the EWI 4000s, I don't buy the hype that the ewi blows away the wx5. There are certain gigs that I like to do on wx5 and there are certain ones I like to do on 4000s. IMHO the Wx5 into a VL70 with the turbo chip is the way to go for any emulation work. check out some of my stuff on you tube under klezmer tom, I do a lot of ewi and guitar duo stuff.
