I have a couple of questions about the Buffet Prestige model bass clarinet, but not the current one. The current model had a few changes too at some points, but this one is earlier.
To identify: It has only one key for F/C (as opposed to the newer one with the extra tone hole), the lower register key (part with pad, not the lever) is parallel to the body as opposed to closing from the side, neck adjustable part has a screw and no cork, low C key on the body, no vent hole in the bell, no adjusting screws for the linkages between the joints, etc.
It is not the older model with the water key on the neck.
My first question is:
For the linkage between the joints for the register key, this clarinet has the nylon pin instead of a key cork or felt. For those not familiar with this method, it is drilling a small hole in one side of the linakge and gluing a small nylon pin in it.
Does anyone know if this is something Buffet did originally for this model or was it done later by a repairer?
Also, just curious if anyone else tried this model and compare it with the current model?

My 1994 Prestige has the same nylon pin on the bridge for the register key actuation. The standard bridge is classic cork.
A great teacher gives you answers to questions
you don't even know you should ask.
