 Robert Spring Masterclass/Recital

We were lucky enough to have Robert Spring come to the University of Northern Iowa yesterday. He gave a 2 hour masterclass and then gave a recital last night. Absolutely fantastic. I listened to one of his Joan Tower CD's before he came and I must admit that I didn't like it too much. He definately changed my mind with his incredible sound and playing yesterday. The Dragon Tounge was in full force and it amazed us all. I was suprised that he made his reeds strictly with a knife, files, and sandpaper. He also demonstrated that for us. I mentioned Sneezy and he spoke highly of you Mark.

We have Richard Hawkins here tomorrow to give a masterclass and play a concert with the symphony. I'll be glad to update.

Yes, Hawkins will play the Gould "Derivations", right? I bet he'll sound great on that piece, I heard him play it once. If you talk to him, say hello from me.
