i have a lot of music books that I dearly love and use all the time. I just purchased "the big book of jazz" which has some great number in it. It is for Piano and voice, but will serve my playing.

What do you all like.

I have an old, original "black market" fake book with over a thousand tunes in it. My dad used to take it on his gigs for the benifit of the younger players that weren't familiar with some of the old standards that were requested. It a Bb version and its all hand scribed, making reading sometimes difficult. Nothing in it is newer than about 1955. In addition to the standards, there at lot of old obscure tunes that just aren't heard much such as "Homicidal Hannah". I don't think I've ever played them all, but its good sight reading training.

Willie,

Is Homicidal Hannah any relation to Hatchet Harriet?

:o(

[...seriously, I'm sure there are hundreds, if not thousands, of songs even us 'old timers' never heard (of).... as I remember, those old 'fake books' saved the day(night?) many a time... ]

Hey! If any of you folks have the lyrics to "Homicidal Hannah", let me know. I've only heard them once on an old 78rpm record years ago. I found a site a while back that had a bunch of old Gerswin songs on it with lyrics that never really made it when released and they are pretty funny. If I can find it again I'll pass it along.
