Over the weekend, my wife and I attended the Michigan Jazz Festival at Schoolcraft College in the area. One of the groups we heard was the Wayne State U Jazz Big band, and the director let slip that Eddie Daniels would be giving a master class at WSU on Wednesday, the 22nd, after which he and a quartet would be at Baker's Keyboard Lounbge in Detroit (a really nice, classic jazz spot).
We were able to attend the performance at Baker's last night. Eddie was fantastic! The quartet consisted of Eddie, a bass, a piano and drums. The group had not rehearsed, and in spite of this, proceeded to perform wonderfully together, like they had been preparing for weeks.
He didn't have a whole lot of time to chat between shows, but the three of us got to say hello and get an autographed CD from him. He seems to be a realy great guy, and his music was a joy to hear.
