I have an R13 made in the mid 1960s...It is a good instrument...i have been playing for less than 3 years and I would like to experimant with my sound..I want to eventually play Jazz Standards...i think I want a more open sound and may a little more power..Can a barreal help and if so what do you reccomend?....Thanks

It would help to know what kind of mouthpiece and reeds you are using.
Likewise, no matter what your setup is, air support comes into play when discussing projection.

I mostly use a Vandorin B45 (the larger one with that harp like symbol on it) I also have a 5JB mouthpiece that I have to use a very thin reed on. Otherwise I use the blue box Vandorin 2.5 or 3 reeds and sometimes even a cheep Rico 3 works.

They call the harp-like thingie a "lyre" which indicates a slightly more open tip than the corresponding alphanumeric designation.
OK, sounds like an ok jazz setup.

I make and sell barrels, including what I call a Jazz bore barrel, but these are typically paired with a wider bore clarinet than the R13. (Selmer Centered Tone, older Conn, etc)

A barrel could make some difference but not nearly as much as the mouthpiece and reed combo do. The B45 tends to have a darker, more subdued tone. I'd suggest before you start experimenting with barrels you go to one of the one line stores and try several other mouthpieces on a trial basis. I'd suggest trying some of the other Vandorens, they make several model so you should try several. Vandorens are not expensive compared to so many others. ESP

I also have the 5JB which i can play with a 2 read only...Its bright...I am trying for a sound that is my own however I think I enjoy the Benny Goodman sound as apposed to lets say Eddie Daniels...I know they are both great but I like that , for lack of better words, 1930's classic tone...It just feels more sentimental to me...I dont know if its my instument or the mouthpiece, reed or just me...I have a pretty good tone but its not quite yet what I want. You think a Selmer could make a difference?

The very best investment for you right now might be some private lessons with an experienced professional clarinetist [ perhaps a prof. at a nearby college that has a full music department (has performance majors ) would be a place to start] who can listen to you, assess your physical sound generating process, and give guidance to help achieve what you want.
After that comes the nifty items that help things come easier.

Bracc check out Tom Ridenour's video on Youtube about choosing barrels and bells. His username is billyboy647. I also just highly recommend his videos they are very straightforward and will for sure save you lot of trouble.
