www.clarkwfobes.com has a new article on tuning clarinets. I just read it. I don't thing I would dare take a blade to my own horn yet, but I would feel perfectly comfortable in "improving" the tuning on a neighbor's horn. It was a great article. Unfortunately my response was to appreciate the value in hiring an expert for that kind of work rather than risk turning the horn that is my pride and joy into scrap. But on a neighbor's horn I'd be perfectly confident. . . .

When I started 5th grand band, our school and "The Christian Music Center" (now Meyer Music) ran a rent to own program. I ended up owning a Selmer 100 or something....not really sure. But when I got to 8th grade, my teacher told me if I wanted to seriously pursue music through High School and College, I should probably get a professional-level clarinet. So I ended up getting an R-13. This left me with my old Selmer sitting around. I thought I'd use it a lot, but I never really did. So Finally I painted it a bunch of really bright colors and now I loan it out for warm marching band concerts at my school. While painting doesn't improve the tuning of my old Selmer, it still looks pretty sweet =)
