I've begun practicing this piece for performance in a few months, and I am wondering if anyone could give me some information on it (performance, interpretation, etc.) I will, of course come up with my own interpretation, but I would like to hear about the merits of various performances, like that of Michael Collins, for example.

 Bob:
It is all important that you have a fine pianist playing with you.
I purposely did not say "accompaning".
The Brahms Sonatas are for clarinet and piano. They don't make much sense when played on clarinet alone.
Find a good pianist who knows Brahms and start working together as soon as you can. It's important for you to know how it all fits.
 Best
 Al

Al, thank you for your advice. I am aware of Brahms's sonata style. David Schifrin once said that Brahm's Clarinet sonatas are like a piano sonata with a 3rd hand. I have selected a pianist. I have not actually heard her play, but I hear she is good. Thank you.
