Just got contracted to play the wedding of a Jewish couple. They want standard classics but would also like a few "jewish" pieces.
We are a flute/clarinet duo.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Dodi li is a standard Jewish wedding type song/dance.
Also Zemer atik (although that might get them up & dancing!) and Ma na'avu.

Hava Nagila is always good.
Mel Bay has easy Klezmer tunes with many parts, also
from MB you can get the Avrahm Galper Clarinet series with 42 Klezmer Tunes much more difficult.

Tara Publications (www.tara.com) specializes in Jewish music, and it's worth checking them out. You might be interested in their "Ultimate Jewish Wedding Book." Tara also sells individual tunes which you can download to your computer.
There are so many possibilities out there, and I think it's probably worth talking to the couple to see what they have in mind.
The others have given you good suggestions. Dodi li is a great idea, and I'll say that it's a must. Other possibilities include Hevenu Shalom Aleichem (an old standard), Siman Tov, and Yism'chu Hashamayim. If there will be a lot of seniors at the wedding, they might enjoy some old favorites like Tzena Tzena and Bai Mir Bistu Shen.

For a flute/clarinet duo, you might try the Kammen International Dance Folios #1 and #9. The C-instrument volume for violin is usable by flute, and has the melody lines consistently. The Clarinet volume (unlike other instrument books in the series) include the melody line plus a countermelody for most of the tunes. Between books #1 and #9, you'll have many of the Jewish wedding standards, and be tooled up with tunes suitable for other occasions.

I used the Jewish Fake Book for a bat mitzvah gig. Granted, I was playing solo, but if you're comfortable improvising a little with given chords (there's a melody line too), then it could work fine. And it has lots of great niggunim (tunes).

I got two great books from <www.sheetmusicplus.com>
Play Klezmer
The Jewish Play Along. This one has more of the favorites that people know, including Hava Nagila.
Both have cd with accomaniment. Each one comes in a flute and clarinet edition.
Leonard
