Hello,
First of all sorry aboutmy english
I know there is alot answers about this, but i need to be sure because I have discussion with the store.
I buy buffet e13 clarinet and the seller say it 6-8 years old.
When i came home i notice there is no buffet sign, the sign is circle in the top written evette, in the bottom witten schaeffer and in the middle buffer crampon, the serial no. is k512....
I see the table in this web site:
http://www.woodwind.org/clarinet/Equipment/HowOld/Buffet.html
and the clarinet build in 79-81.
Before i "fight" with the seller i need to know that i'm righter.
Another thing, is there any quality difference between the new e13 and the evette schaeffer, so i need to ask a real e13 or older e&s and ask a change ?
Thanks kobi

There is alot of information accessible within this forum by searching for Evette and Schaeffer with the search facility.
Although there is much general information, individual clarinets obviously vary hugely, and depending on how long you have played for, you might want the help of an experienced player or teacher in evaluating the quality of a clarinet.
With those provisos having been said, the K series Evette and Schaeffer is regarded as a precursor to the E13 in all but name, and I believe it was just a change of name rather than design that created the E13 from this model.
There are two balancing things to consider, for you. The first is that the instrument is older than you were told, and is not a "proper" E13 if a proper one is one marked as Buffet and with the model number E13 stamped on it.
The second thing is (reminding you of the warning about accepting generalisations), the K series Evette and Schaeffer is often described as having been made of better wood than an E13, of better quality than the E13 and are often compared favourably to the R13.
In summary, because they are not a truly marked E13, they are often found to be cheaper than the E13, but by many are regarded as better.
The fact that the instrument appears to be not what was described when you were sold it gives you the opportunity to take it back and request an alternative or refund.
The possibility that it might be better than described means that you should find someone who can evaluate the instrument and advise you.
You might expect to pay anything from $150 to $400 USD depending on its condition

I have a 1978 Evette Schaeffer with the logo like the one you describe. (Photo attached) I have had others like it in the past and they are very nice clarinets. It is definitely an E13, but older than the store told you. But if it is in good shape and has been overhauled, I would not worry about the age. I seem to recall a post by Brad Behn referring to a very nice sounding one that he owns of about this same vintage.

My Evette Schaeffer is K49XXX and it is a terrific instrument. My main instrument is a 13X,XXX R13 that has served me very well for several years. Recently I acquired an A clarinet companion to my Bb from Susieray who I must thank for her excellent service. She is an honest broker of used gear and I am a very happy customer.
I paid $150 for my Evette Schaeffer on Ebay, and it was well worth the money. I practice on it every day, it plays more similar to my fine R13 than any other instrument I have played, and it allows me to keep my R13 in better shape by less frequent use.

I have an E&S Schaeffer K series clarinet somewhere at my mama's house (if she hasn't sold it at a garage sale yet!!! More of my stuff goes every month!!!). It's a great playing clarinet. Chris is right on all the information he gave you.
So you ARE justified in the sense that it's not a labeled "E13" and isn't 6 - 8 years old, but you may have gotten a better instrument than you thought you were getting.
I would sit down and play it. I don't know how much you paid for it, but I would sit down and play it, maybe have some other clarinetists that you know and trust play it, and ask, "Is THIS clarinet worth the money I paid for it?" Judging by people's reactions to E&S K-series clarinets, more than often, the answer is, "Yes. This is definitely worth what I paid."
Alexi
PS - For the record, my E&S (if it's still at home and in fact "my" E&S) has played better than MANY R13s that I have tried (not all), and significantly better than any other student level clarinet I've tried.

The clainet sound very good, but it is annoying the seller make a mistake like this.
The price the seller want for 30 years old clarinet is about 1000$!!!
and again this is good instrument.
The seller agree to get back the clarinet, but didn't agree acknowledge in the mistake.
Thanks for all yours answer.

Hi
OK the prices here (in Israel) for a clarinet like this are completely different than what others posted here. I guess the prices posted here are based on other local markets and eBay. In Israel it is rare that anyone buys instruments online so it is not so much a compeition with local sales. Generally, many things are more (sometimes much more) expensive here than for example in USA.
There's pretty much no way a clarinet like that would cost $150 here, and even the top part of the range that was suggested, $400, I think is very unlikely. I found the price of a new E13 on the Halilit/Kol Hamusika website and "discounted" it is a little under $2,000 (probably discounted from a "retail price" i.e. a randomly made up higher price). I don't know if that's the final price if you actually go and buy one.
It is strange that the seller doesn't accept he made a mistake (hopefully that's what it was).
You can contact me if you are interested that I check the clarinet: http://www.nitailevi.com
