 Selmer 10G Worth?
Author: JayC

Hi All -

I bought a 10G several years ago for about $700. It was a good instrument, but not great. A couple notes felt stuffy and a few were WAY sharp. I never fully felt comfortable playing it in public. After fussing with it for a while, I invested in a Yamaha CSG (which I LOVE) and never looked back.

I've let other people borrow the 10G and everyone really enjoyed playing it. No one seemed to have any of the issues I had with it. All in all, though, it's spent the better part of 3 years in my closet so I decided to get rid of it.

I noticed WWBW has a department that buys used instruments so I filled out an application. I got a reply yesterday with an offer of $100! I figured I'd loose money in the deal but wasn't expecting the offer I got. Is this normal? Are 10Gs really worth the same amount as a student model clarinet?

Any insight would be truly appreciated!

Jay

$100 is pretty low, but I bet they wouldn't offer that much for a Bundy.

$100 is absurd. You could probably get anywhere from $600 to $1200 for it. What serial # series is it from?

WW/BW offered my student $200 for his 1939 (pre-R13) Buffet, which had been freshly overhauled (by a high profile tech) and was in perfect playing condition.

He turned down the offer ...GBK

The WWBW service is third party........so I feel comfortable being critical. They are looking to re-sell, as I was told, so they need to low ball the offer so the there is significant profit for them on the backend.

Sell the instrument yourself.

It's part of the X series. Not a bad horn by any means.

I called them back to negotiate and they upped their offer by $80. Still pretty pathetic....i think I'll pass on this one.

Thanks for the help everyone.
