Stocked up on reeds - now what?

Hi all,

It's been ages since I've posted!

I've just made sure I have plenty of boxes of reeds. I play Gonzalez FOFs and I've got enough 3 1/2 and 3 1/4 to last me for the next 8 months or so plus different strengths to cater for the change of seasons. I found a supplier which had some boxes of 1999 harvest which nobody had bought, they must be unpopular here in the UK?

Anyway, so far so good; I've got some awesome reeds out of the first two boxes I've opened and I'm wondering: in order to get the best out of subsequent boxes that I open, what should I do with these reeds? Any special treatment or any particular way of storing them?

Just make sure that they aren't in a very humid place. You could seal them in a ziplock bag with a desicant in it (Doc Henderson sells them). That's what I do (used to do before the reeds were sealed with the humidipak).

A ziplock bag with dessicant should also have a humidity indicator card included, as the bag material is not much of a barrier to water vapor. The dessicant will eventually become ineffective and must be replaced or rejuvenated.
