Anatomy of a Buffet bass case

I just got an older Buffet 1180 case from my band director. I want to convert it to fit my Malerne Four Star. This is what I found:

Yesterday I took it apart so I could glue/nail the wood back together properly. First I took out the million screws holding the case cover on. That includes the feet and the button snap. Second I took off the back/bottom wood panel. Now I know why I'm not supposed to sit on this case. It's like cardstock! It was cracked in a few places.

The sides of the case are at least 3 cm thick. The inside of the case where the instruments sits is made of plastic. I guess the fabric is attached with an adhesive spray of some sort. In the end of the slots where the tenons go the plastic was broken. Probably from dropping the (luckily) metal capped tenons into that area after every practice. The case cover is definitely a waterproof material kinda like canvas.

The case as a whole is good. It looks cool without the case cover, but it's definitely meant to have it on. It wouldn't last ten minutes without it. It won't be the easiest to modify. We'll see.

Update on my current 1180 case: I've lost all the feet (7). The latch is starting to miss its mark when you close the case. The end handle is handy but if you're shorter than me (which is less than 6 ft) it's useless. The zipper that I broke is a pain to use. I'd rather zip and unzip it than have my bass clarinet all over the floor, however. The zipper on the old 1180 case works perfectly. Hmm...
