 Rene Duval Silver Clarinet
Author: judyperry

My brother has given my son a silver Rene Duval Clarinet. I am just trying to get some basic information about it. I have never seen one like this - it is all one piece, except for the mouthpiece. It was made in Italy and the serial number is 958. I have no idea how old it is or anything about the company. If anybody can tell me anything, please do.

Most of the cheaper metal clarinets had a one-piece body, so nothing unusual there. If made in Italy, your Rene Duval was most probably made by Rampone, with the second possibility being Orsi. I've seen a few Duval clarinets and mouthpieces, they were student-quality but not bad. Timeframe could be anywhere from 1940s through 1960s, best guess.
